1 Peter 5:5-7

Corresponding to the commands to elders are commands to "youngers" (and all others in the church). The youngers are instructed to be subject to the elders (5). All believers (and one might assume this includes elders) are instructed to behave towards one another with humility (5). The context in which we practice humility is "under the powerful hand of God" (6). We are humble because God is great and it is he who will exalt us (6). We must not exalt ourselves. Humility is accomplished by means of casting our cares upon God, the one who cares for us (7). Humility is possible because we are in the care of a powerful, loving God.
